A WMS is a warehouse management system. It tells the picker what to take and in which order to walk.
A record system knows how much stock you have. A warehouse system knows where it lies.
It takes an order, leads the picker across the floor and records what was taken.
The difference shows at the end of a shift. The stock adds up, and so does the work.
Record systems answer the question of how much. A warehouse system answers where and in what order.
Records can hold bins and print barcodes. They never compute the walking order.
So both live together: documents come from records, execution stays on the floor.
Early, if stock is small and the storekeeper knows the floor by heart. Below 300 m² that is usual.
Time to act, if a new hire hunts for an item over a minute. Or if mismatches reach the customer.
A sure sign: headcount per shift grew while shipments stayed the same.
An address names a place: row, rack, shelf, bin. Goods live at an address, not somewhere in row three.
Without addresses the system is useless: there is nowhere to point.
Yet addresses alone do not speed anything up. They say where, not in which order.
The picker takes a handheld and sees an order of ten lines. The walking order is set.
The screen shows the path from the door to the last bin. Every stop is confirmed.
At the end the sheet goes to print. The manager sees what was picked and how long it took.
